You join me on a sad day. A tragic day. My heart is broken. I don’t know how, or even if, I’ll survive.
You see Tina, the love of my life and my super-spiffy wúnderieifey is leaving me.
For two whole days!
Girls Allowed
The trip is one that has been conceived and planned all within the last week—a girl’s getaway to Settle (or surrounding parts) with Sarah, my super-duper step-daughter to spend some time shopping and walking (??) in honour of her birthday/.
But while the cat’s away…
To be quite frank, this particular mouse won’t get up to all that much. The loose plan is to enjoy the silence (as Depeche Mode once sang), cook and eat the steak I’ve bought to mark the occasion, finish the revamp of the cover art of my novel (last week’s opinion gathering on my first effort going down like the proverbial heavy metal inflatable), work on the follow up book, and possibly finish the odd spoken sentence in the bargain.
I may also drink some bourbon.
Settle Down
But that’s going to be about it. The crazy days of my youth are behind me these days and it’s the quiet life I find more enticing. Gone are the 3am finishes, the shots, and the Goldfish Bowls with their vodka and redbull. These days, a couple of Buffalo Trace & Cokes and a bit of Football Manager were my immediate thoughts on receiving the news of my temporary freedom. That and just how big the bed is going to feel with no-one to cuddle up to.
Hopefully the girls have a better, more interesting (although not too expensive) time of it. I’m not sure what there is to do in Settle. In fact it’s a place I’m led to believe is more famous for the train leaving it than anything else.
I’m sure the draw of the line to Carlisle will have accrued some small tourist-trap type diversions, though . I hear tell of a local pub that does decent food and some shops that sell ‘bits’.
Yes, hopefully the girls have a good time, and celebrate Sarah’s birthday with a little bit of style. Hopefully they’ll be able to tear their minds away from the plight of the lost and lonely man haunting his own house like a ghost.
Hopefully…!
Until next time!
