Now, this will be a short one.
I’m confident in this assertion, because, right now, as I type, I’m exhausted. Not just tired. Not just weary
Exhausted.
It’s not even that I’ve done a lot today, either. I mean, I made breakfast, and walked the dog a bit. Apart from that, though, it’s been a big of outer space-y shooting on the Xbox, and a bit of watching stuff on Youtube. So, you might very well ask, what’s with all the exhaustion
Well read on.
Overnight
If you’re a regular reader you might have picked up that I have a step-daughter. Her name is Sarah, and last year she qualified as a paramedic making both myself and especially my wife, Tina as proud as Punch (and possibly Judy, the policeman, and the crocodile too).
Oh, and she lives in London. Which is where we’ve been for the last three days.
The trip was an effort to exchange Xmas presents before they became Easter presents. We therefore booked a bus trip down to ‘that London’, and a two night stay at the same Travelodge we’d stayed in to celebrate the aforementioned graduation with Sarah (and her partner Ben, who qualified for the same job a year earlier but due to Covid, had a delayed ceremony).
We should have booked a third night.
On The Road
It’s not that we did a lot down there, you understand. The highlight was the gift giving and receiving (I did very, very nicely), and a roast dinner courtesy of Ben and Sarah’s culinary expertise. Yes, there was a flight or two of stairs to navigate, which is probably more than I’ve managed for a good long while, and yes, that was physically tiring, but that’s not what’s contributed the most to my current malaise.
No, I think that has more to do with the traveling.
As I mentioned, this was accomplished on a bus. A mega bus, to be exact. It’s a four to four and a half hour journey down, and the same back up. Add in the journey from the bus station to the hotel, the return journey to Sarah and Ben’s, and the trip back to the bus station and I think it’s fair to say we were pretty much all bussed out.

It doesn’t make all that much sense, when you think about it. I mean, apart from getting on and getting off again, you're pretty much sat on your derriere for the most of the time, Not exactly the most strenuous of activities. My word, though it feels strenuous.
The Morning After
Today I’m drained. Sapped of all energy. Depleted of all reserves. I’m awake and out of bed only due to my own pig-headedness, and that’s by the skin of my teeth. Of course, the fact I’, in the middle of an MS relapse of some sort, and my lymphocyte count is so far through the floor it’s practically living in Australia doesn’t help. Luckily, I see the specialist tomorrow, so, with luck, something will get done about that.
Which doesn’t help right now.
Me Time
I think therefore, I’ll wind things up here. The trip, as gruelling as it currently feels, was still well worth it. It was lovely to spend time with lovely people who we see so little of, and we did manage to fill the odd hour, here-and-there, with other stuff. An amazing, if somewhat spicy Chinese meal which featured lotus root, and my favourite cocktail (an Old Fashioned) at a lovely if somewhat expensive bar, being among the noteworthy examples. There were no tourist-y visits to attractions or landmarks, however, apart from our obligatory pilgrimage to Tina’s special oasis of calm which takes the form of Westminster Cathedral. It will be a very strange visit that doesn’t include that on its itinerary
And that’s your lot. Next week will hopefully be brought to you by Tina, who has already expressed a wish to put virtual pen to virtual paper. I will therefore leave you in her more than capable hands and hopefully, see you in two weeks.
Until then.
