And welcome to the parity.
That’s right, after a couple of months where things between myself and my superspouse, Tina have been subtly out of whack, we’re finally back on an equal footing.
Because, once again, we’re the same age.
But Not Wiser
You see, my birthday is in August whereas Tina’s was last week, meaning for those few short weeks I’m a year older than her.
Now, you can argue that we’re both as old as we are no matter where you freeze the frame and I’ll always be that little bit older than Tina, but that’s not what the numbers say.
For a while, I was, officially, one year older than Tina, That’s what it would say on any form I needed to fill out. After all, no-one ever counts these kind of things in months once a person is over, say, two or three years old.
Barb-y Girl
But that time has now passed, taking with it the opportunity to call me out on that extra year with barbs and jibes. Parity has been re-established.
And, as is the way in these days of ever increasing age, we took the opportunity to mark the occasion of Tina’s latest trip around the sun in an elongated orgy of food and booze.
That probably sounds more interesting than it was.
A bottle of booze each was ordered for the occasion. A take-out was put on the menu, I cooked a slap-up feast that included my trademark buttery mashed potatoes. There were even sprouts, although even being Tina’s birthday, I ducked out of cooking or eating those. After all, a man has his limits.
We didn’t go out, although there was a reason for that in the form of our daughter (well, my stepdaughter). Who was only freed from successive work shifts the Monday after Tina’s birthday and then promptly came down with the lurgy on the eve of the planned meal (where’s a medical professional when you need them, eh?). It meant the feast had to be postponed.
Austen-Tacious
The weekend was still a fun if somewhat humble one. Some food, some drink, some laughs, a film (Spiderman: Brand New Day). It was reasonably quiet as we hunkered down from Storm Austen.
And that is pretty much all she wrote. A birthday week of staying in and having stuff delivered to the door (there may well have been chocolates and roses in the mix somewhere along the line.)

On a day, a week where one of us got older, it was a nice reminder that we’re, um, getting older.
And now… Xmas
Until next time!
Hey, there! If you enjoyed reading any of the above, why not take a look at some of my published work? Below you’ll find links to a number of short stories I’m lucky enough to have included in anthologies. I’d love to know what you think. My debut novel, The Heart That Died, is available now as both paperback, E-book, and on Kindle Unlimited, so I’m adding the link to that, too.
Oh, and if you like what you look-see, a nice, positive review would also be most welcome.
The Heart That Died

Death Ship
Pestilence: Drabbles 1
Reaperman: Drabbles 3
