The Lurgy

Hello, dear readers,

All in all, it’d been a bit of a rough week. Not all bad. Not by any means, but it’s fair to say I’ve had better.

And it all started just twenty-four hours after posting this blog!

Not Fantastic
Now, in the interest of clarity, my Solo Night of Fun (Not as dirty as it sounds) passed well. I ate of the fried chicken and drank a reasonable amount of bourbon whilst watching Marvel’s latest Fantastic Four offering (Not a great film in my estimation) while my bodacious bride, Tina, did the TimeWarp over at Bradford’s Alhambra Theatre. It was an amicable split in entertainment, especially as I’m not one for either the jump to the left, nor, particularly, the step to the right.

So, you might expect me to be feeling a little delicate the day after, yeah?

Well, possibly. Bourbon is particularly good to me, though and, while I had a fair bit, it was a fair bit under my limit. I woke up feeling okay. A state of affairs that, thanks to coffee and a few gallons of water, continued for most of the day.

A Bug In The System
In fact it wasn’t until early evening that I started to complain of feeling off and a headache appeared. A nasty, sinus-y affair that, initially, I put down to overdoing it in my advanced years.

The next morning proved me wrong.

A two-day hangover is rare, as is one that delays for several hours of day one and only comes fully into force on day two. Rarer still is a hangover that proves communicable. So, as Tina declared she was feeling dreadful enough to ring in sick, I threw out the theory and succumbed properly to what proved to be a nasty bug.

The sinus-y thing continued. The headache spread to an all over ache that seemed baked into every muscle. I wasn’t coughing. I wasn’t a snot monster, but I ached and everything was an effort. So much so, that Friday’s tea and Sunday lunch were courtesy of a local takeaway and a popular burger chain respectively.

Ends & Means
But, by Monday, we were feeling a little better, and every day since the recovery has continued apace leaving just worries of a financial nature to worry about and even that has reached a conclusion.

Mostly…

Because, while the award of a joint Universal Credit claim has been approved, it was only because I had the decision date in mind and happened to search the online portal a little bit that I found it, and what I found, as is usual for the DWP, was as clear as mud.

It means that, in order to work out our monthly finances a little better, we’ll need to allow a month or so to pass and then and only then go through all the ins and all the outs to see what, if anything, we’re left with. It means the uncertainty continues for just that little bit longer.

The Food Of Love
But, that’s a worry for another day. For now, at least we’re alright. We have a roof over our heads and food on the table, which is more than some. We’ve even managed to put a little aside for a Valentine’s Day meal, but that, I will save for next week’s blog.

Assuming, that is, we don’t catch the lurgy.

Until next time!
