HoliJobs

Hello, dear readers,

Well, following on from my beloved úberspouse, Tina’s offering last week it’s once again back to me ( (I know, I know). The good thing? Well even though it’s a change in voice, the song remains the same.

Getting Clean
And I know that’s not a good thing for everyone. I know there are some that would like a change of subject or perhaps a break (If you wish hard enough…). The thing is, it’s my blog, and I’m going to write about the things that interest me. The things that excite me. At the moment. Given that we fly on our first trip out of the country for eight years in five days, there’s only one show in town.

Well, that and the million and one jobs to do before we go. There’s a house to clean before my wonderful step-daughter, Sarah arrives to housesit for us. Apparently she’s bringing whichever of Kim and Aggie is still alive with her, because this has to be done with forensic care. I mean, there were places to sit which were mainly clutter free. That’s kinda clean, right?

Other than that there’s been the early check in, the call to the insurance company to divulge pre-existing conditions (which took a long, repetitious, and script-filled time to do), the checking where my regular medication gets packed (hand luggage, surprisingly), and of course the time-honoured tradition of packing twice as many clothes as is strictly necessary.

Suits You Sir
Thankfully, my parents bought me a set of hard-shell suitcases which have made the latter job much easier. In fact the bulk of it was taken care of when we performed a practical exam on capacity.

So, apart from a couple of last minute purchases (I need new socks...apparently), the packing of the toiletries, and making sure there’s enough fuel in the car to get to Manchester Airport without there being too much that it goes back to the Motability scheme with anything more than fumes in it (it’s how they hand over the car. I see no reason why I shouldn’t do the same) that’s everything done. And now the wind down begins.

We might not leave until Monday, but this weekend will be pre-holiday. A time to chill. A time to let the takeouts take care of the cooking and the washing up. A time to reduce the chances of the holiday being any more needed than is, um, well, necessary. There’ll be the thrill of excitement, no doubt. The prospect of flying will probably trigger Tina’s anxiety a tad. Apart from that, however, we will, with a little luck, reach duty-free suitably unfrazzled. I’ve even made a promise not to hit the free samples quite as hard as last time (eight years ago, but not long enough for certain people to forget, eh, Tina?)

It’s all five days away, but the excitement is already here, and it is growing. There’s a restless energy churning away inside me which has proved to be quite handy for the cleaning. A tingle of anticipation that grows stronger with every passing day. Tina and I have whole conversations about what we’re likely to be doing at this time next week (well, two hours later with time difference. I’ve checked the whereabouts of the passports pretty much daily.

Yes, it’s remarkable how much this holiday has got us pumped. Obviously, as I’ll have far, far (far, far) better things to do, and I’m not taking the laptop, normal service will only resume on my return in two weeks; possibly not even then. All I can say is keep your eyes peeled.

Because this time next week…

Until next time.
